The Government has agreed to extend for one year the validity of the National Identity Documents that expire since the entry into force of the state of alarm last Saturday, March 14.
This measure is included in the Royal Decree-Law of extraordinary urgent measures to face the economic and social impact of COVID-19, approved by the Council of Ministers. “The validity of the national identity document of the elderly who are holders of a document that expires from the date of entry into force of Royal Decree 463/2020 is extended for one year until the thirteenth day of March in the year two thousand twenty-one , of March 14, declaring the state of alarm for the management of the health crisis situation caused by COVID-19”, states the legal text.
It is also indicated that “the extension of the validity of the national identity document will allow recognized certificates incorporated into the same document for the same period to be renewed under the current procedure.”
